what is the difference between amoxicillin, azithromycin?

Different classes: Both are antibiotics but act in different ways to kill bacteria.  So they are in completely different classes and have different effects.  Amoxicillin is a type of penicillin.  Azithromycin is a macrolide.

Likely no, but don't: You should be ok, but they could cross react.  They act on similar groups of bacteria, so i would take one or the other, not both.  It's like wearing a belt and suspenders.  Either will keep, your pants up!

Throat: A physician might decide on obtaining a throat culture and sensitivity to see if your bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic that was currently prescribed. He may also decide to switch antibiotics to see if the bacteria is susceptible to another medicine. It would be advised to proceed under the guidance of a physician. Have a great day.

See below: Most cases of bronchitis are caused by respiratory viruses that do not respond to antibiotics.  Bacterial bronchitis is usually caused by strep. Pneumoniae, hemophilus sp. And moraxella sp.  These are usually treated with zithromax, ceftin, (cefuroxime) vantin, Augmentin or levoquin.

It is not: We use both in practice and many factors go into which antibiotic we will use for a particular patient. The type of infection, duration, is the patient a good pill taker...

i am on my 4th day of azithromycin. i am now experiencing uti symptoms. can i take amoxicillin with this?

Don&#x27;t take amox: You definitely should not self-treat with amoxicillin. First, amoxicillin isn&#x27;t usually a good drug for UTI. Second, it may not be UTI; azithromycin maybe triggered a yeast infection, which amox could worsen. Third, depending on why azithro was prescribed, e.g. for chlamydia or other STD, maybe that&#x27;s the cause of the apparent UTI symptoms. Contact your doctor and take it from there. Good luck!

Probable reaction: or thrush- a fungal infection of the mouth from overuse of antibiotics. Call your physician and eat lots of yogurt.

Tx of gonorrhea: Unfortunately NOT  - the CDC guidelines call for another antibiotic in addition to Azithromycin for the treatment of GC.    and neither of the two other antibiotics you mention is that antibiotic  -  if you have a discharge you need to be evaluated and then treated APPROPRIATELY

was on 10 days amoxicillin, now received 3 days azithromycin for my sinus infection. have not started azithromycin yet, becaus i feel better now, should i take  it or will my infection go away on own?

Allergies: Not one in one hundred "sinus infections" is an infection!  They are reactions to things in the environment pollens, air pollution and respond to gargle,antihistamines, Nettie Pot, Nasonex (mometasone) or injections and oral steroids or to nothing.

i had severe anaphylactic reaction to amoxicillin and cefalaxcin. not allergic to azithromycin , cefixime ,ofloxcin n ciplofloxacin. i have fear nw?

Excercise caution: avoid medicines you are allergic to, print a card with your drug allergies, keep it  in your wallet, inform every doctor/dentist  you encounter of your drug allergies to write this information in your chart,,take the first dose of any new antibiotic prescribed in the doctor's office and wait for an hour, if no reraction leave,keep epinephrine handy when starting a new antibiotic,u will be safe
