i was put on cipro/flagyl for a very mild case of diverticulitis. they were horrible to take. so i was prescribed augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 875. i have anxiety about taking this medication, because of the other two. ?

Do not worry: First of all, diverticulitis should be confirmed by the presence of symptoms and the finding of inflammation by ct scan. This justifies the use of antibiotics. The problem antibiotic is the flagyl. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) typically does not have these side effects and should have close to the same coverage.

is it ok to take pain medication and vitamins such as zinc and magnesium while on antibiotics such as augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) clindamicin, or doxycycline ?

No: Why are you taking 3 antibiotics??? Why take Zn or Mg??? Which "pain med"??? Other vitamins? There are few valid indications for supplimenting with metals other than iron and they may interfere with absorption of many things, especially antibiotics.

High blood pressure: No, you should not take either of these meds until your doctor has seen you and planned medication to lower your blood pressure. It will happen!

Why ever?: Mono is a viral infection that is not aided by antibiotics. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) will also expose you to the risks of an antibiotic side effect, and with mono, a large percentage will break out in a measles like rash specific to Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) or Amoxicillin ingestion.

bx said spongiotic dermatitis drug reaction likely. em type rash only on extremities ,hands/feet extreme itch and blisters several days after augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). never had allergy. why such delayed reaction. ?

Not to my knowledge: To be really safe, if you are taking the antibiotic when you have to have a drug test, have your prescribing doctor write a note stating that you are taking it.

If indicated: Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) can be used at that age, but dosing might need to be adjusted. That being said, i rarely need to use it in that age group.

See doctor: Persistent diarrhea can be a sign of infection or inflammation in the bowel. Seeing a doctor to have an exam, blood tests and stool studies would be the best thing to sort out what is going on and to develop a treatment plan. Make sure you are drinking lots of water so that you do not get dehydrated. I hope you are feeling better soon.
