Interactions: Escitalopram and Elavil (amitriptyline) may cause a rare problem known as seritonin syndome. Elavil and Lisinopril (zestril) may lover your blood pressure at the beginning of treatment or with any dose increase, causing dizziness; they may also increase your heart rate. Be careful when you stand up and do so slowly at first.

Endep & Lexapro (escitalopram): Endep is Amitriptyline which is a tricyclic antidepressant. As long as endep dose is low & taken at bedtime, while Lexapro (escitalopram) in morning, i see no problems. Doses of Elavil higher than 50 mg. Can cause weakness & incoordination.

Yes: Both of these medications are antidepressants.  Endep (amitriptyline) is a tricyclic antidepressant.  Lexapro (escitalopram) is an ssri.  These have different mechanisms  of action.  They can be used safely together.

Caution: While the 10 mg dose of Elavil is low, combining with Lexapro (escitalopram) increases the risk for serotonin syndrome and  irregular heart rhythm. Also you are taking two antidepressants. If Lexapro (escitalopram) is not working, discuss with prescribing doctor to consider trying Elavil alone or another class of antidepressant. Be sure you have careful medical supervision while on these meds. I hope this helps.

Endep (amitriptyline) side effects: Why is Endep being added to your Lexapro (escitalopram) dose? Be sure you understand the reason. Both meds are antidepressants. Although Endep 5 mg is a very low dose, discuss side effects you're having with prescribing doctor. Endep (amitriptyline) is an older antidepressant which tends to have more side effects, eg, lightheadedness, dry mouth. If side effects persist, this may not be the best med for you.

Not recommended...: The Mirtazapine (Remeron) is fine. Elavil (amitriptyline) oral and Lexapro or escitalopram oral both increase affecting serotonin levels in the blood. Too much serotonin is a potentially life-threatening situation. Severe signs and symptoms include high blood pressure and increased heart rate that lead to shock.

i was taking remeron for 2 weeks.i had terrible anger and irritability.today the dr gave me elavil.should i have weaned off lexapro (escitalopram) which i was on yr?

Maybe: Weaning depends on dosing of both Elavil and Lexapro (escitalopram).  Too high dosing could result in serotonin syndrome.

When Rx'ed Amitripty: If you just got the script for amitryptiline today then, we're way to early to conclude anything. If you have already been on that combo for at least 2-3 weeks and no change in your symptoms then, you should call your doctor. Do your panic attacks stem from PTSD, nightmares, abuse, or other forms of trauma? Unless you address such issues DIRECTLY, no amount of medication is likely to work well.
