been wearing glasses for 6 years. eyesight getting worse. am i going blind?

Accepted Answer

Change is expected: It is normal for our vision to change we get older. This is not a sign of going blind, more a sign of aging. See you family doctor, ophthalmologist or optometrist if you are having changes to your vision.

when i stand up i go blind for a few seconds and sometimes feel like i am drunk. am i going blind or is it my diet or what?

Low BP likely: Light headedness and brief visual loss upon standing is typical of a temporary drop in blood pressure. It's called orthostatic hypotension. The most common causes include blood pressure medications and dehydration. Normally when we stand, blood vessels in the lower body constrict to keep blood going upward. When this malfunctions your symptoms are typical.

No: Twitching of the eye lid is muscular and not related to the globe or it's functon of sending light and transmitting that information to the brain

Optic neuritis: Temporal arteritis is a disease over the age of 50. Think about optic neuritis. Seems that you are under the proper care of an eye dr.

i have contacts. started plaquinil 2 months ago i also have stigmatism every time i close my left eye and stare everything starts to white out and blur im so scared! what's wrong? am i going blind

See your doctor: Based on the description you are giving, if you are closing your left eye and your right is blurry that may be your weaker eye and not have anything to do with plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine).  See your opthalmologist for an eye exam.

my left eye has recently developed a foggy vision. not long i visited an ophthalmologist because i was experiencing difficulties to read when i sat infront of a computer. am i going blind? can this be cured?

Vision problems : Please use glasses if your ophthalmologist suggested you to do so. Trauma to eyes or having reasons to develop cataract early in life also need to be considered. Some patients may have detachment of retina in the eye which can also present similarly. Please see ophthalmologist asap.

i'm 39 and was just diagnosed with polymialgia rheumatica and hortons disease, i was told its rare for my age  but how likely am i to go blind?

Giant cell arteritis: Best way to diagnose is with temporal artery biopsy. If biopsy is positive treatment with oral Prednisone to make sure sed rate returns to normal level. Prednisone is then gradually tapered while sed rate is monitored. Following this protocol the chance of going blind in one or both eyes would be highly unlikely. See a neuro-ophthalmologist if you are unsure you are getting proper treatment.

Get an eye exam: The term "blindness" can be interpreted in many different ways. Central vision can be impaired by a simple need for glasses, and the problem can be easily solved. Peripheral vision loss is more unusual, and typically does have an underlying cause of more significance.  Only through an eye exam can a disease process by diagnosed and treated.

DO NOT DELAY: See an ophthalmologist ASAP, get examined and uncover cause.  Many problems with loss of vision can be reversed such as premature cataracts and glaucoma.

See an eye doctor!: Any vision loss is abnormal. And the greater the delay from noticing the change to evaluation, the greater the loss will be. Many causes of vision loss can be controlled well with early appropriate treatment, so please see an eye doctor immediately.
