i recently tested reactive to htlv-1 and -2. ive always used condoms with previous partners except 3-4 times with 2 long term partners. how did i get this? never used drugs. how to prevent transmission to my life partner? any treatment available?

: If you had positive screening test only then you need more specific tests for confirmation. If the positive screening tests were confirmed so you are truly positive. These viruses are transmitted via breast milk, unprotected sex and via infected blood (blood transfusion, contaminated needles or surgical equipment). Your partner has to use condom for protection.

Yes: Exchange of body fluids with an infected person puts you at risk.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Not likely: HTLV disease has a long incubation period, and a symptomatic person would have antibodies.

No: Hla genes are inherited - half from mom and half from dad.

Yes: Both htlv-1 and htlv-2 are spread by sexual transmission, from mother to child, and by exposure to infective blood through transfusions and injection drug use. In this respect the virus is contagious. It does not appear it is transmitted in any other way.

No anti-virals.: Only 5% of peopel infected with htlv-1 will develop diseases, and their treatment is disease specific.  Asymptomatic people who carry the virus are not treated, as no anti-viral drugs have been found that work.  The serious complications of htlv-1 or adult t-cell leukemia-lymphoma and htlv-1 associated myelopathy and they have specific treatments.  Need to avoid  giving the virus to others.

: You should be referred to see a neurologist for ruling out HTLV-I-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis which affects less than 2% of HTLV-I carriers.

: I would suggest talking with a doctor in person to figure out why you may be having pain. There are many common factors that should be investigated before you narrow your focus to this one virus.
