i have an allergy to sulfur. would this allergy mean i am allergic to sodium laureth sulfate found in body wash?

Accepted Answer

Sulfa: Sulfa allergy is usually secondary to antibiotics such as bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). You did not describe your type of allergy but if assuming it is to an oral antibiotic, you should be ok with the body wash.

i have oral allergy syndrome and can't eat nuts but used a body wash with walnut shell in it. will i get symptoms?

Oral allergy syndrom: Oral allergy syndrome are local symptoms on contact with certain food due to cross reactivities of those to environmental allergens. It usually does not cause life threatening events like in real food allergies. You can test it on a small area on your skin before applying it to the whole body to gaze how much symptoms you get.

i may hav an allergy to sulfates (after x'ing eggs, rashes bettr but not gone). cant find body wash & shamp thats sulfate free and gluten-free. ideas?

Don't bother.: There are lots of sulfate-free shampoos (read the label). There are gluten-free shampoos too, but that is unnecessary. Unless you are drinking your shampoo for some reason, there is no way that shampooing your hair can cause a gluten enteropathy in your bowel. The "gluten-free" hype is really getting out of hand. Gluten is quite safe for all but a small number of gluten-sensitive people.

how do you classify sodium laureth sulfate. i am allergic to sulfa and i need to know if my shampoo and body wash are causing me problems. one of my symptoms to food allergies is that i have no energy. lately i have had no energy. could i be absorbing it

It : It is really unlikely that yopu would absorb enought to cause any issues. Your symptoms should be addressed by your doctor.

: If you are experiencing a moderate to severe allergic reaction, please see a physician right away. An antihistamine is often helpful in reducing symptoms, but if more severe, please see a physician. Watch for breathing difficulty, shortness of breath and cough. 
Have allergy testing and consider immunotherapy, and an allergy referral.

You might: Hot pressed oil contains insignificant amount of nut proteins. In nut allergy, you are allergic to the protein of that particular nut. You get reaction to the nut by eating it, not through the skin in general. If the body lotion that you want to use does not have the oil from the nut that you are allergic to, you should be fine. If it does, the risk is really low. See a local allergist for details

See below.: It's possible that you have dry skin, in which case using hypoallergenic skin cleanser and frequent hypoallergenic lotion applications should help. If this doesn't, please see your doctor soon for evaluation, because there's a long list of conditions that can cause generalized itching, and some of them need specific testing and treatment. Feel better!
