what allergy masks can i get that are comfortable enough to sleep with? please no elastics. i already have 3 hepa air purifiers. i want a mask.

Wrong solution: I think you will likely obtain more benefits from an allergy consult.  Wearing a mask is usually not an acceptable solution for allergic diseases.

Yes but: You should consult your doctor re.A more effective solution. Yes you can wear a mask but are you prepared to wear it for the rest of your life?   Besides i'd doubt this will totally solve your problem.

See allergist: There are steroid nasal sprays that work really well if pills are not helping.  There is a prescription medication called singulair (montelukast) that might help.  In addition to these, there are allergy shots that usually help.  Some people have obstructions in the nose that need to be treated by an ENT doctor.  See an allergist or ENT for treatment options.

Antihistamines: A trial of antihistamines may help many can be bought over the counter.  Avoid the sedating ones.

Yes: If the mattress has a foam top it can make you sweat, it is not an allergy.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Most allergy medications are anti-histamines. Older ones like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) easily cross into the brain and block histamine. Histamine in the brain is a wake promoting neuro-transmitter. Histamine in the skin, lungs, causes typical allergy symptoms. Newer generation anti-histamines (claritin, allegra) do not cross as easily into the brain and are not usually associated with sleepiness although all can.

Any number of things: This can be related to allergies but if not, things like silent reflux, stress, breathing difficulties at night (apnea), pain and cardiac causes.  This is just a few.  Also look at any medication you may take including caffeine.

Treat the allergy: I presume you have a very stuffy and runny nose during certain season.  Sleep disturbance is often associated with nasal obstruction and i believe that your sleep quality will get better once you get your nose open.   Unfortunately, the decongestant in otc medications often keeps one awake and you should ask your family doctor to try you on a prescription nasal spray.

Possible: I don't know what kind of allerigies you suffer from, but possibly dust mite allergies is what you have, with prolonged exposure to dust mites in your pillows / mattress, better  see an allergist for management, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area

received 10mg kenalog shot and a 5 mg decadeon shot for allergies yesterday am and did not sleep at all that night. related? if so how long should i expect this side effect?

Accepted Answer

: Yes, it is likely Decadron which is a steroid, typically affecting sleep, effect should not extend any longer.
