which type of vitamins should i take for my age, women's one a day? allergic to seafood, will vitamins with fish oil have cause an allergic reaction?

Accepted Answer

Not needed: Multivitamins have not been shown to improve health or longevity when studied scientifically.  It would be better for you to follow a healthy and nutritious diet with a lot of veggies and fruits.

i had a mild allergic reaction to fexofenadine a couple of weeks ago. it interacted with risperidone. face tingling. im having that same issue with omega 3 fish oil. i take sertraline and a low dose aspirin. is one of those medications interacting?

: It is possible but we need to now every thing you are taking including vitamins and other OTC stuff.

Go to Drugs.com and enter all of the stuff you are taking into their interaction checker. That is what I do when I am seeing a patient. Easy to do.

these are the things i am taking, korean red ginseng, multivitamen, fish oil, vitamen c, vegetable protein and loratadine tablets (for allergies).  are these alright together?

Accepted Answer

Yes: There are no adverse interactions between these things. Make sure you take a high-quality multivit. At least 1/3 of adults can't convert Folic Acid to the active form, l-5-mthf ; anxiety/high BP makes it likely you need a multivit that has the l-5-mthf form.

i get adverse reaction to foods like dairy, nuts,  and canola oil
can only take small amounts of fish oil,   any alternative food sources of omega ?

Many alternatives: Flax oil, hemp seed oil and chia seeds are excellent sources of essential omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. However, many people do not efficiently convert the Alpha linolenic acid found in vegetable foods into dha, an essential omega 3 which is found in fish oil. Products like omegazen provide dha derived from algae so it might be wise to supplement with that or a similar product.

im allergic to shellfish, can i take fish oil? krill capsules?

Accepted Answer

Fish oil vs shellfis: Generally fish oil is produced from oily type fish ie bluefish or salmon so it should be safe to take for people with true shellfish allergies.  Krill because it is a type of shrimp - may be more of a challenge - if possible i would stick to fish oil.

Better not: There are vegetarian versions of omega-3 (dha&epa) supplements that are non-fish in origin google for online sources.

Additives: There may be additives in the brand of fish oil you're using -- look at the label and see.  Depends on what else is in them.

Fish oil: I wouldn't take the chance of taking fish oil if i were allergic to shellfish.

Fish oil: You could allergic to highly concentrated fish oil but not to certain kinds of fish. Don't use it.

Accepted Answer

Not likely: A true allergy highly unlikely because fish oil contains only trace amounts of proteins you are eating when having fish and that can cause severe allergies.
