Allergic reaction: To a detergent, take any OTC antihistaminic now, 2 tablets, either cetirizine, loratadine or diphenhydramine, let someone drive you to the ER or to your doctor , you need to be examined

Depends: If you are 100% certain it it due to detergent then some topical Hydrocortisone cream and oral Zyrtec (cetirizine) for five days will be helpful.  Change detergents and do a second rinse in the washing machine.  But, it's important to make sure it is not an infection (yeast, folliculitis, cellulitis).

allergic reaction to laundry detergent. i have a terrible rash and can't sleep. i get severe akathisia from antihistamines. what else can i take?

Detergent reaction: You can try OTC topical hydrocortisone 1% cream. Akathesia, although very rare, may occur with first generation antihistamines as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) , hopefully not the case with the newer less sedating as loratadine or desloratadine, as for your akathesia vs RLS, I believe you need to see an experienced neurologist for assessment, best wishes

Rash: This rash would likely need to be examined and more history obtained to be able to provide you with useful input about the diagnosis or possible treatment.

: Such symptoms suggest a bladder or prostate problem, not urethritis. This problem has nothing to do with how your underwear is laundered. See a doctor. Good luck.

i recently had an allergic reaction to a new detergent, resulting in a rash on my back, chest, and arms.  cortisone cream seemed to work, but i still have a small lingering rash.  i was wondering if pepcid with loratadine or zyrtec/allegra would work?

: If you just avoid that detergent and avoid wearing any clothes that were washed in it this should self heal. I try to avoid using the pharmacy when the body itself can sort things out. Just keep the skin clean &amp; all should be well within 3-4 weeks.

Dermatitis: Sounds like dermatitis to me as well, and thinking of laundry or personal care products is smart. May have become allergic to things that he was not prior, or maybe something you are not thinking about.  Be suspicious of any  new medications as well. Consider using hypoallergenic soaps and a topical Hydrocortisone cream and if persists seek some help from a derm.

Red herring?: It would be exceedingly unusual to have a true allergic reaction to an antihistamine.  You'd need a blinded, placebo-controlled challenge to establish a true causal link.

Varies: Immediate reactions to a food can include hives, feelings of throat tightening and itching, shortness of breath,  flushing of the skin and overwhelm feeling of doom. This can develop into nausea and vomiting as well as diarrhea.  Some foods can cause a delayed skin reaction such as eczema and not always the immediate reaction. As always consult with your doctor get tested and avoid possible foods.
