May need antibiotic: It sounds as if you may have a bacterial infection brewing in your chest. The combination of steroids and albuterol may take care of some of the asthma like problem but the underlying issue may be an infection. You need to contact your doctor for consideration of antibiotics.

do i need a prescription to buy sterile saline for a nebulizer?  will it work to break up chest congestion? cough, not wheezing-don't need albuterol.

Not really: Well, looks like you've got the albuterol in case you need it.  Keep in mind that sometimes the body's response to inflammed airways is a cough, so albuterol may help that as well.
Sterile saline is available at any corner drug store, wal-mart, target, etc.  In fact, many wound washes you find in the first-aid section are just sterile saline.  Just read the bottle.  Good luck, and see your doctor!

is it safe to take otc robitussin (guaifenesin) cough + chest congestion dm & an albuterol nebulizer treatment 2 hours apart? i am sick with a terrible deep cough

Yes, should be okay: Yes, it should be fine.  No known interactions between these.  If still concerned, talk to your medical provider.

4 .5 m.o. baby appears to have a cold. no fever, breathing fine but does have minor chest congestion, eating fine. she just spit up after eating & had a small amount of green mucus. is it ok to monitor symptoms @home or do i need to take her in?

Mgt: If you have nasal congestion, then a nasal rinse can help. An OTC medication may be taken prior to bedtime. Please discuss taking inhaled Albuterol and possibly an inhaled steroid with your PCP.  In the meantime, please rest and stay well hydrated.

Yes...: ...Ventolin, or albuterol, works by opening your small airways.  Excellent for wheezing associated with asthma, bronchitis, chest congestion, etc.  The problem with inhalers is learning to use them appropriately.  Sometimes your physician will also prescribe a spacer which helps.

sudden chest tightness, rapid hr, reflux, nasal congestion & trouble breathing. albuterol helped. lung infection 5 wks ago. could this be asthma?

Mgt: It may be that the illness predisposed you to bronchospasm, which the Albuterol relieved. If you have a family history of asthma, this increases your likelihood of asthma. If you have recurrent wheezing, please see a specialist or your PCP . A virtual consultation may be useful to you and your PCP.

Chest congestion: This means shortness of breath or discomfort. Do you have an asthma or COPD? Do you smoke? Do you have any leg swelling? Do you snore during sleep? These all above conditions can cause congestion. May be you want to discuss with your doctor.

Not really: Usually not but sometimes patients have nasal congestion and that can give rise to feeling of dyspnea.
