i was prescribed albuterol for mild moderate copd. i stopped using it, feel so much better, but have pressure in middle of chest. could this be from quitting albuterol. have anxiety flare ups more so than not, taking rx for that?

: To address your question we need to know why you felt bad when taking albuterol inhaler and why this inhaler was prescribed in the first place, for shortness of breath or chest tightness or ? If you are not shortness of breath on exertion without this inhaler, the chest tightness is likely not due to stopping albuterol. Take care.

CHF: A patient with COPD and CHF can generally use albuterol. Some patients with CHF have signficant arrhythmias and for these there is some danger of triggering a serious arrhythmia. This discussion should be had with the patient's dr.

Acute vs. Permanent : Do you have Baseline Pulmonary Function Test results from previous years. If there is significant Decrease in FEV1 then you will no that this real otherwise an acute exacerbation such as upper respiratory  viral illness might worsen your short term Inhaler requirements as well.See your pulmonologist t address these questions.

Yes: You probably have smoke-damaged lungs. Albuterol works well for asthma, but atrovent may be better for the copd. Inhaled steroids like dulera, symbicort, (budesonide and formoterol) and advair are good maintenance inhalers for asthma/copd. Of course, if your lungs are in this shape at 36yo, you have to quit smoking! you don't want to continue to throw gasoline on your fire!

Respimat or similar: The pulmonary hypertension may be secondary to your pulmonary disease. Follow COPD Gold guidelines and consider Respimat. A cardiac echo is recommended.

what are the risks of taking prednisone and albutoral when you have copd?

Side Effects: Albuteol is fairly well tolerated but can be associated with tremor, fast heart rate and nervousness.  Short courses of Prednisone has similar side effects.  Long term Prednisone has many side effects including hypertension, mood changes, cataract formation, high blood sugar readings and weakening of bone density.

i have copd and was given albuteral. in my entire life i have had only4 headaches and i am 67. a few days ago i experienced a horrible headache that brought me to tears. i had wheezing and shortness of breath, violent coughing with excess phlegm?

: Your COPD is not well controlled and you may be experiencing an exacerbation. The use of a LAMA and iCS agent should be discussed with your physician. The headache may be due to an infection, hypoxia or another cause. Watch for vomiting, worsening cough and fever.
