Discuss with MD: Hard to know, the medication is used to treat hydatid disease and other infections caused by tapeworms. May also be used to treat infections caused by roundworms, hookworms, and pinworms. Belongs to a class of drugs called anthelmintics. All of these infections can cause itching and flaking,  pads and toilet paper can cause extra irritation. Try using moist wipes for hygiene until treatment finish.

i was diagnosed w/pinworm, about 10 days ago i took my first dose of albenza (albendazole). it still itches sometime but doesn't hurt to pew anymore. is this normal?

Need 2nd dose: You should take a second dose 7 days after the first dose to kill newly hatched.  Take the second dose as soon as you can for a complete treatment.

PINWORM: sometimes: It's hard to get rid of pinworm. May need repeated treatment at 1 wk interval. Actions must be taken to eradicate ova from pt., close contact/your home. Avoid itching, take Claritin (loratadine) or any anti itch med at night, shower every a.M, wash hands frequently, keep nails short, wash all clothes, bedlinens, clean sofa and where ever the infected person/s sit or lies down. Whole family treatment needed.

Pinworms?: Assuming this is what you were treating the only way to know what you are seeing in your stools is to have them examined in a laboratory. Go and get this worked out.

After a week: The itching is caused by a skin irritation, not directly by the pin worms.The female worm lays eggs in a sticky glue like material around the anus.That glue triggers skin irritation in most people. Simple wash off with cold water and application of an OTC hydrocortisone cream has more benefit to the itch than the pills.
