how to start walking in aircast boot after ankle surgery?

Walking in Aircast: Just walk as normal as possible if your doctor cleared you do do so. Expect some pain at first but will ease up and follow instructions doctor gave you.

i broke my foot in 2 places 4 weeks ago - no surgery required. i am in a aircast boot and haven't felt any pain, is this a good or bad sign? thanks

Good sign, but.....: No pain is generally a good sign. But, not all fractures are the same, because some are stable (real fractures versus stress fractures) and some are unstable (which may in fact require you to stay off of your foot with or without a cast for 8 to 12 weeks).

The dr will usualy : Base his decision o palpating the region of injury to see if you have pain, place ankle thru range of motion and watch you walk and ask for your feedback. This coupled with the amount of time that passed will help make his decision. 3.4-4 weeks is certainly sufficient time if your not feeling pain. It is important to do strength training excercises afterwards. I still say get clearance from Dr.

Ankle fracture: That is a recent fracture, so keep up with the elevation until no longer needed.   See your physician if there are any other problems.  That's why we are here !   good luck.

Ankle: See an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation and treatment. You may have ligament damage. If so you want appropriate treatment to avoid life long chronic ankle problems.

The air can be : Adjusted in the boot,is the foot wrapped up? If its wrapped up you would want to see the docto have them unwrap it to see if your skin is intact or if you possibly have ulcerated the skin....and to possibly take xray to check on the repair

None early on: A fibulae tip fx @ ankle is a sign of ligament avulsion from an inversion injury. Give it 6-8 wks 2 heal and rehab according 2 ur ortho guy. Bone2 bone healing is the best outcome.  Follow ur ortho's protocol

Boot in shower.: If a rubber boot it will get full. Ask the booter. They almost  certainly gave you instruction. If leather I would not wear it in shower.

why is unna's boot not recommended for wheelchair-bound and bedridden patients?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Unna boots can cause a slight decrease in circulation due to their constricting nature when placed.  When patients are bedridden and wheelchair bound, they may have a decrease in circulation which may be additive to the unna boot constriction and cause ischemia to the lower extremity.
