can an abscess continue even after a root canal treatment?

Yes and No: If the root canal was successful the abscess should heal by its own accord as the cause of the infection has been eradicated&this can take up to a year for complete healing of the apical area. If it persist then the tooth may be fractured. If this is the case it may have been fractured before the rct. See your dentist/see a specialist for a second opinion.

Risk vs benefit: You have to weigh the risk complications of immediate treatment vs the risk of waiting on antibiotics to attack the infection.  Sometimes it's best to at least open the tooth and medicate it, then wait for the abcess to "settle down" before completing the root canal.

Depends: Depends on how bad the abscess was and whether you respond well to drainage and antibiotics.  Ask the endodontist that question. Could be several weeks.

i had root canal treatment on a tooth (#11) about 9 years ago due to a severe periapical abscess. it has been fine since but i noticed the tooth has recently been appearing more gray compared to the surrounding teeth. does this need to be looked at?

: After a root canal, your tooth is not vital, no nerve or blood supply. Your tooth is now subject to a fracture unless a crown is placed. Over a period of time the tooth color starts to fade and becomes darker because it is no longer a live[vital tooth]. It is always best to have a crown made to protect the tooth from breaking and to restore its normal color. Have a crown made now.

hello, is it normal to have pain with a tooth after abscess drainage? i am on augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for 5 days and will have root canal treatment. no swelling.

Pain is not normal: Pain is always a sign something is wrong.  Even though you have been on antibiotics, there is probably still some swelling even if it is not visible.  Root canal therapy should take care of your problem.

Root Canal: Root canals done by endodontist have about a 95 percent success rate. Occationally a tooth can become reinfected and need re -treatment

did a root canal about a week ago. was supposed to go back for round 2 of treatment on thursday but could not go as i had the flu. nou it feels like i have an abcess on that tooth. any home remedies until i can get to the dentist?

Dental problem:  Actually if you have severe pain or signs of infection - would call dentists offic. They usually have a way to get through to the dentist for emergencies.

: I would have that problematic tooth evaluated by an endodontist (root canal specialist). There may be a residual infection or even a fracture or accessory canal. Continual use of antibiotics will not resolve the issue.

can my  bridge be damaged if a root treatment is to be performed the dentist wants to drill through the bridge as i have an abcess front teeth?

Root canal treatment: Doing root canal to a tooth by opening a hole in a crown definitely well compromise the well fare of the bridge to a certain degree . It depends on  how that hole will be sealed after finishing the root canal and what material would be used.

Abcess have to be: Drianed and treated with the proper antibiotic.
