Depends: Retin-a is a prescription vitiamin a derivative cream. Retinols are found in many types of products and foods and have lower potency. You should not use these products if pregnant, breastfeeding, or if you could become pregnant as they can cause birth defects. They also should not be used if considering lasik or prk.

i am not entirely sure what you meant by "make it grow back?"
retinols (r's) are a group of over-the-counter medications, as opposed to retinods (prescription medications) that affect the skin cell turnover, causing peeling of the skin. Sometimes, this is intended outcome of the treatment. Using r's less frequently and using moisturizing creams (e.g., cerave) may alleviate symptoms.

Retinol more active: Retinol is an animal form of vitamin a.  Vitamin 
a comes in 2 sources: animal and plant. The animal source is called retinoids which include retinol. The plant source is called carotenoids which includes beta-carotene. The body converts beta-carotene to vitamin a. Retinol is the more active form of vitamin a that is better absorbed thru the skin.

For the most part.: While oral agents such as Accutane and Doxycycline cause significant birth defects and should be avoided. The topical agents are felt to be relatively safe in pregnancy. Benzoyl peroxide is the recommended agent for the treatment of acne in pregnancy.  As with any medication or agent check with your health care provider before using any agent.
