Many symptoms: They are the same. They can range from fever to no fever, sore throat or full feeling in throat, running nose with post nasal drip.Exsudate or no exsudate on tonsils. The list goes on. That is why it is important to get a throat culture to make sure you have a strepnthroat.

Can get rechecked: One can get his throat rechecked if a lot of strep throat symptoms return. Cold weather can make a throat uncomfortable temporarily, due to breathing cold, dry air... but does not cause strep throat to relapse. Soy products are everywhere, and have no unusual effect on a normal person's throat.

Similar but: Both cause very sore throat with swelling and fever. Both can be diagnosed readily with a rapid test. Mono rapid test is less accurate. Mono  significant systemic symptoms such as fatigue, sleepiness, nausea, and the swelling tends to be more severe and more dramatic appearing. i was diagnosed with strep 4 days ago and began taking penicillin. today when i woke up i was coughing up bloody phlegm--- is this a usual symptom?

No: But can occur with severe infection due to rupture of small blood vessels with coughing, or due to disruption of tissues by the toxins produced by this nasty organism.  If it continues would go back to see the doctor.

after a viral pharyngitis (w dry cough), my son developed strep. ped prescribed atb but hes done with it and stil has some episodic dry cough (never when sleeping). ped said its normal. for how long should we consider it normal (no other symptom)?

: A cough is a natural reflexive act the body uses to bring debris/mucus from deep areas of the lung to the outside. It can persist until all lung linings are healed, which may take a month. If night cough persists past a month, it can be a sign of mild cough varient asthma which would show up on lung function testing.

Could be: This could accompany streptococcal pharyngitis, but I would place a lot more credibility in a very sore throat with exudates, tender cervical adenopathy, a mild fever, and the absence of other findings that might suggest another kind of infection. Antibiotics can produce some abdominal cramping....
