Drug dependence is the body's physical need, or addiction, to a particular substance, in order for the person to feel like she is functioning normally. Over time, drug dependence may lead to harm in the user's brain and body, to behavior problems, and to association with people who also use substances, etc...

Bad idea: Marijuana is harmful to the brain. It can interfere with your medication. I have seen it cause treatment resistant psychosis in several patients. Chronic use is also bad for your lungs and can increase cancer risk. It also causes a syndrome characterized by a lack of motivation.  Just because states are legalizing it, doesn't mean it's safe. It's a very bad idea.

Depends: I've seen patients where it does nothing much. I've also had patients end up in the er with psychotic symptoms from doing that. Since everybody's different and there's no way to predict, why risk it?

More ADHD: If you took mj with Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) then your adhd symptoms would respond much less than without mj.  As a recreational attempt, using both is illegal and foolish.  Basically, the pharmacological effect would be similar to drinking coffee while stoned. You should only use Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) if it were prescribed for you by a competent practitioner.

Don't gamble: with your brain, health or life. It's possible, but it's at least as possible, if not more so, that this was what it appears to be: a 1st unprovoked seizure. See a neurologist, don't lie about anything you're taking or using, and do whatever (s)he tells you to do. You may get lucky &amp; have no more; or you may have epilepsy &amp; will have to make some life adjustments.

someone took a 5 panel body hair test. he tested positive for marijuana,cocaine,amphetamines,and methamphetamine. the methamphetamine level was extremely high. is it possible to distinguish his prescription adderal from crystal meth use?

: Adderall is a mixed amphetamine product. I see little chance that these screening tests would be able to distinguish one type of amphetamine from another.

Unclear: Medical marijuana is legal in several states, and many pts are convinced of benefits in headaches and other pain syndromes.  Yet, research, to convincingly prove benefits in the treatment of pain, are lacking.  Therefore, we may be seeing merely placebo effects due to the effect on mood and behaviour.  Eventually, i suspect that organized medicine will rigorously evaluate this, but no proof so far.

Reward?: Some people have a pleasant, calming, and mildly euphoric effect from smoking marijuana, similar to opioid "reward." this is what I have been told.  Others who have tried marijuana, do not use it again, due to lack of a high, pleasant effect, or calming.
