Experiment: If it is mild and confined to your face, the former may be enough to keep fresh lesions from appearing. The second is a bit stronger. Neither will touch the marks or scars that follow the acute phase. Your physician may need to add stronger stuff.

: Topical use of what you described is unlikely to have caused your purging so look for something else as cause of the purging. Oral use of Clindamycin may cause diarrhea because of C. difficile colitis, but not usually topical use.

are retinoids & ha or sa and all of these acne/aging products safe and ok to use if you have no acne? i have zero visible acne and never have. im wanting to start adapalene or retin-a for fine lines (33) but im concerned i will break out. unlikely?

: Yes, unlikely.  Tretinoin and adapalene have been used for decades to treat fine lines, and since they are primarily used to treat acne breakouts, it is illogical that they would CAUSE breakouts.  The only caveat is since you will be using them for cosmetic purposes, your insurance will probably not cover the cost.

Possibly ... but : Not on your own.... Call your dermatologist to discuss options and to understand side effects associated with increase doses.

First, : First, many of my patients use way too much medicine.  The size of the "pea" is really about the size of an "o" on most keyboards.  Make sure you aren't using too much.

Second, you can try doing it every other night.

Third, you don't have to wash your face at night before you put it on (unless you have makeup to get rid of).  You'll have less redness/dryness if you apply it without washing first.  If you do need to wash at night, try waiting about 30 minutes before putting on the medicine.

Fourth, don't be afraid to mix it with some moisturizer.

Finally, it just might not be the right product for you and a change might be necessary.

Yes.: Tretinoin or Retin-A, is used for sun damage to skin, acne, age spots, and wrinkles.  So, it is reasonable to use in your case unless you have a contra-indication.  Discuss with your PCP about dosing.

ACNE SCARS: When you  apply retin a (tretinoin) to take out scars of acne, your face will tighten, sometimes red and irritated. Then it will start peeling off the marks of acne and will smoothen the skin. Try putting moisturizers to avoid dryness.
