Remission vs cure: In many cases of psychosis, we're talking remission of symptoms and being stable on medications, rather than complete cure or psychosis permanently vanishing.  In your case, it sounds like you're stable on your Abilify (aripiprazole) -- and this is a positive thing.  Please tell your doctor about it.  S/he will certainly want to know.  And please don't stop your Abilify (aripiprazole) without discussing with your doctor.

Please stop MJ: Please stop smoking marijuana.  I don't know how long ago "used to smoke" means, but frequent use means it will remain in your system for months now -- creating prolonged effects.  If you're having psychotic and depressive symptoms, please talk with your parents so you can get help.  This help is available with your doctor.  Addiction medicine doctors & psychiatrists too. Don't do this alone!

Psychoses: The constellation of symptoms could be endocrine- specifically thyroid related. If you were hospitalized, the appropriate testing was probably done. Follow up with your doctor.

Acute mania meds: Atypical antipsychotics have been increasingly used for (and gaining FDA approval for) acute mania. Both meds mentioned (abilify (aripiprazole) &amp; paliperidone) are in this class and can be used to treat acute mania. Other atypicals are also used. Li, VPA, and some typical antipsychotics are FDA approved in acute mania as well. Talk with your doc to make the right right choice for your specific case :)

???????: that is the million dollar question. however, people with genertic preparedness can develop psychosis under stresss. also certain meds and chemicals can increase the risk and at times precipitate psychosis. i.e.  stimulants such as those used to treat ASHD, Cannabinoids increase the risk of psychosis by 700%... other street drugs may do so as well
