Clean: The best answer is to have a clean diet....More fresh fruits and vegetables, lean grass fed beef, non hormone chicken etc.  Avoiding processed foods, artificial sweeteners, sodas, are all ways to improve skin. Sometimes it cannot be completely avoided if there is a strong family history. I also get great results with chinese medicine.

what can cause vitamin a levels to be high repeatedly in blood tests despite no vitamin a supplement or multivitamin, no acne creams etc etc. normal diet. cannot find the source of the vitamin a excess. thank you?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, it would have helped had you provide the actual result. High is not helpful. High could be just above the normal limit and would not be meaningful.    Wish you good health!

Clear acne: The quickest way to control acne for a short period of time is to take Prednisone 5 days before the event.  This is not a permanent way to control acne.  You take Prednisone 10mg three times a day for 5 days as long as it is not contraindicated.  This treatment is used for proms or special events but after the event the acne may flare.

No quick fixes: If two weeks on over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide doesn't clear you, get with your physician. You may be a rx for a topical retinoic acid derivative, the oral contraceptive pill (if you're female), topical clindamycin, a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline, or a dermatology referral for possible isotretinoin. All acne is manageable today; it's not a hygiene or lifestyle problem. We can help.

Accutane: Accutane is a very serious and potentially dangerous chemotherapy drug with significant and potentially long lasting complications prescribed for severe nodular acne disease. It should not be prescribed to woman who may be or wish to be pregnant as it may cause significant birth defects. Accutae may clear up Acne but does not prevent Acne breakout in the future.

Acne: Wash face w gentle cleanser 2x/day &amp; use oil free products. No oily hair or heavy foundations. Try not to pop pimples. Avoid touching face (cradling chin in hands). Remove makeup before bed. Shower after strenuous exercise. Consider OTC products (salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide).  Retinoids/ comedone extractor can be helpful for black heads. If &gt; mild acne see dermatology.

Sure: There's nothing magic about the salt just because it's from the ocean. Acne also comes and goes. Topical benzoyl peroxide would be a good addition and if you need something stronger, your physician can help.

Acne: do not wash your face with soap just use plain water as this will help in not plugging up your pores, you can also use benzamycin 5 % gel topically twice a day.

Scientific Rx: I'm sorry you were misled by the foolish business with the lemon, which is worthless. You're a grown man and need to take charge of your acne. If topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated (try 5% 2x/day) hasn't cleared the pimples in 2 weeks, get with your personal physician for prescription-strength rx. The post-inflammatory pigment fades on its on after several weeks, or try hydroquinone sparingly.
