Tore acl: If you felt a pop and your knee feels unstable there is a good chance that you tore the acl graft. You will need an examination and MRI to confirm.

Yes: Agenesis or congenital absence of the ACL has been described in patients who are born without an acl.   It is rare and may be associated with absence of a meniscus, limb length discrepancy. Typically the patients have symptomatic instability causing them to seek care, which usually requires surgical ACL reconstruction.

Get examination : If  u think u may have torn your acl see a board certified orthopedic surgeon who will take a history and perform a physical exam. Most acl tears can be diagnosed in this manner; if needed an MRI can be performed to confirm dx.And rule out other injuries( i.e. Cartilage)... Your surgeon can then discuss treatment options. Pop, swelling: An acl tear classically involves either a hyperextension or valgus contact (blow to outside of knee)mechanism of injury. Symptoms include hearing or feeling a 'pop' in the knee w/ immediate pain. Significant swelling ( hemarthrosis) w/in 24 hrs.Of the injury is common. Sometimes a feeling of 'looseness' is felt if the patient walks after the injury.An exam by an experienced ors will confirm.

Yes: @ age 23  tearing your acl is a serious knee injury. Please see my previous answers on acl injuries on health tap. Briefly, acl tears can lead to chronic instability of the knee; can lead to meniscus( cartilage) tears as well as articular cartilage wear( early arthritis)if left untreated.See your ors who has experience in treating acl injuries. You cannot: The mcl and acl ligaments are structures that develop on their own. They cannot be strengthened with exercises or training. You can, however, strengthen supporting muscles such as the quads and hamstrings that control motion through the knee.

Yes: Acl tears occur with twisting or pivotig movement of the leg while weight bearring or a blow to the leg 

cheerleading can involve athletic maneuvers to do this
soccer football skiing etc also

swelling and pain and giving way are common after these tears.

ACL: Typically in the area of your tibial tuberosity on the anterior part of the knee. Laxity of the knee would also be a prominent symptom.
