Many Possibilities: If this is chronic and not a new problem may need to consider your diet such as things like coffee, smoking, spicy foods, and alcohol intake. Also there can be a chronic infection of the stomach that can cause this called h. Pylori which can be tested for by blood and stool tests. This is treatable with antibiotics. Also try otc meds like Zantac (ranitidine) and Prilosec with maalox. Try changing diet as well.

GERD : If the child is an infant, there's not much to do, until they outgrow it. You can help the symptoms by giving baby smaller feelings, and burping frequently. Your pediatrician can also prescribe medicine to help the pain, from heartburn, that happens with GERD.

This may differ in everybody but known triggers are caffeine, chocolate, nicotine, alcohol, soda, licorice, peppermint. You should keep a dietary log to see what your triggers are. And if you have red flags like difficulty swallowing, weight loss, vomiting or black stools, please c md.

Medications can help for a while but changing lifestyle choices helps more.
