See your doctor!: All those problems can be related to uncontrolled gastroesophageal reflux, stomach ulceration and aspiration of acid into the airways.  Sleep apnea can be associated with all of these symptoms as well.  Treating the underlying cause will make your nights much more restful!

Diet and lifestyle : For my patients i advise the following: avoid, any of the following: acidic foods, dairy, chocalate, mint, caffeine, spicy foods. At least for the next couple of weeks. Sleep on a wedge pillow (chest above you stomach, but not so that your chin is to your chest). And avoid tight fitting clothes. One can also take the pill twice a day or a couple of weeks.

Reflux: Gastric reflux can result in the sensation of choking or shortness of breath or the sensation of "heart burn"  if it is continuous it may be more severe.  Life style changes like stopping smoking, stopping alcohol, stopping caffeine may help.  I would suggest seeing your physician, you may need to have an egd - a scope to see what the problem is.

i have acid reflux and every evening, i get choking feeling in my throat which doesn't go away for few hours. is there a way to prevent it? thanks.

GERD to THROAT: To prevent GERD -- eat smaller meals, chew more thoroughly, make posture straighter, get up and walk after eating, sip water during and after eating, eat less meat.  AND of course, take acid blocker or acid reducer each evening 30 min before  eating, such as omeprazole or Pepcid (famotidine). Both are OTC.

Yes: Most common cause is gastroesophageal reflux sometimes associated with esophagitis.Sometimes pain mimics heart attack. When gastric acid reaches the vocal folds, airways, and lungs,  cause swelling of the passages which can lead to atypical asthma reactions. Such airway damage can affect breathing.Dysphagia is choking. Nausea and tightness of chest. See physician to rule out other causes of pain.

See your doctor: If the baby can't breathe it shouldn't wait and they need to be assessed.  It could be they have an allergy to dairy and/or soy and exposure to it in the breastmilk or formula is causing reflux and the acid is burning the throat and nose, causing extra mucous.  Saline drops for babies used after each feeding can help.  If turning blue or having poor weight gain see a doctor asap.

NPO: Patients are kept from eating or drinking before surgery for 6-12 hours whenever possible to prevent this--reflux of stomach acid can still occur. Reflux risk is often reduced with h2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors to reduce stomach acidity. In emergency cases, meds and endotracheal intubation do their best to prevent aspiration.

Evaluation: You need to see a physician to determine the problem. Could be reflux or allergy, or a number of other things. Get an evaluation.

Possible: Yes, acid reflux is possible, but not the only cause. Another fairly common one is sleep apnea. More history is needed at this time, i'd see your regular doc.
