In fact the diagnosis and treatment has been so effective, in addition to the use of new medications to decrease and block stomach acid that stomach surgery for ulcers is rare now.

Expands: When the liver enlarges it can expand downward but also towards the epigastric area (upper middle abdomen) which can cause pressure in that area.  I hope that you are being treated by a liver specialist for your condition.

Ulcers, or erosion of the stomach lining, are caused by acid and a bacterial infection, helicobacter pylori. The bacteria is thought to weaken the acid-resistant stomach lining, and is usually treated with a combination of antibiotics and an acid reducing medication. See your doctor if you have symptoms.

Possible: If you start with a viral illness, the bacterial flora of the gut (good bacteria normally there) can get thrown off balance.  Also h.Pylori bacteria can cause reflux issues.  Probiotics as well as otc medications for reflux can be helpful.  If symptoms last more than 2 wks, see your family physician.

Vomiting/Indigestion: Stomach flu is usually self limited. If the same symptoms recur on the food you were taking, you might have food allergy or other etiology. You certainly should avoid the food that caused the symptoms . You should also avoid spicy food. Given your age of 50 years old, I suggest you to see a GI doctor if recurrent symptoms.

4 days = maybe safe: Contagiousness varies among different "stomach viruses" and among different people, so is not easily predictable. However, one can feel safer if the sick person wakes up on Day 5 without any symptoms the preceding 4 days. If unlucky, she can still catch a virus and come down with the illness. Food poisoning is usually less contagious, but depends on the bacteria type.

hi. i have 3 girls who all seem to be rotating a stomach virus. its an average of 10 days between, up to 17 at most. each of them have had it multiple times since oct. ive resorted to bleaching surfaces, sanitizing laundry and dishes. what gives?

: Time to see pediatrician for an exam and to test stool, it would be unusual for a virus to keep reinfecting them, a parasite, if having pets or community acquired c diff for example would be more likely. Hand hygiene remains the most important measures for them at this point to stop transmission.
