Please consult : With your surgeon. With any tendon lengthening procedure there will be some degree of weakness. This is inherent in the procedure. Muscle/tendon strengthening may be helpful, a physical therapist can help with this, you may require orthotics or bracing in the meantime to prevent any falling or instability.

Recovery time: Achilles tendon lengthening requires non-weightbearing for at least 4-6 weeks.  During this time, your tendon is trying to heal/repair the gaps made during the surgery.  If you bear weight too early, you risk tearing the tendon or rupturing it completely.  As a result of the surgery, your Achilles tendon will be weaker (4/5 strength instead of 5/5), but you should be able to hike etc.

Up to 3-6 months: Could be a minimum of 3 months and could be   up to 6 months or even more. Depending on the specific type of surgery done.

Yes: Stretching exercises as well as splinting are helpful. Surgical lenthening is also an option in several situations.

Not yet: It is not about the amount of time that has passed. Not a good idea to drive with your right foot until you are not feeling pain. You need your reflexes to be at 100%. Perhaps you need to have physical therapy to help things along?

Clarify with doctor: Kids are very active , most of the time no special physical therapy is needed, but find out from his surgeon , if you are not happy with explanation seek a second opinion .

Casting then rehab: You will likely be immobilized for weeks. Once the surgery site is healed aggressive physical therapy and rehabilitation will begin. True functional gains could occur around 6 weeks of rehab
