Depends: You didn't describe what the metal was or the blood. If you swallowed a jagged, sharp piece of metal or one which is in a shape which might get lodged in your GI tract or it was particularly large - it would be important to have this assessed. If you swallowed metal such as a penny, that would be likely to pass on it's own. When in doubt seek medical care.

Swallowed object: If your grandson is having any difficulty breathing or is wheezing call 911. If he is breathing and talking normally then you can wait  and it will pass in a day or two.

? ear cuff ?: We have a lot of experience with ingestion of foreign objects from the exploration behavior of toddlers. Most will pass through the gut to poop in 3-4 days. If they have a sharp cutting edge or are batteries/magnets they may be a problem. Ingesting a cup or so of stewed cut okra can form a congeal around the object &amp; help it pass with less irritation. Cramping would  be the expected symptom.

my son has just accidentally  swallowed a small metal marble a few minutes. he is not choking. he  drank water without any issues. should i be worried. should i do to the hospital to check where the marble is?

If no symptoms...: Kids everywhere swallow all sorts of stuff. A little marble or bead comes out the other end, the butt. We don&#x27;t have to look for it to come out, but just presume it does. We can&#x27;t worry about every child, so when do we worry? Batteries or magnets... those have to be found and removed by doctors. Kids whom we suspect are habitually eating objects (called pica) can be x-rayed to check their insides.

Sharp objects: Swallowing sharp objects can scratch the throat, esophagus or stomach. The shavings you swallowed were very small and most likely passed all the way into your stomach and shouldn't cause any significant trouble. They will eventually pass in your stools in a few days. See a physician or Otolaryngologist if you experience persistent throat discomfort or bleeding or black stools. Gargle with warm wat

Small/non toxic: As long as it passed through to his stomach and it is non toxic it will become coated and pass through the remainder of his digestive system. If he has symptoms of difficulty swallowing, vomiting, abdominal pain, blood in his stool or if it is a poisonous substance; he should be seen. All the best.

my wife just accidentally swallowed a loose tooth crown. it's porcelain and has 2 metal prongs below it. what should i do ? we have attempted to induce vomiting to no avail. please advise?

Swallowed crown: It should pass without incident. To be sure, however, you will have to examine her stool output until it safely passes. If the "metal prongs" stick out or are sharp, she may have to be followed with x-rays to assure that it does not get stuck and/or cause perforation of the bowel. Please inform your Physician and your Dentist immediately. Your Dentist will have record of it's exact shape.

Foreign body: In general when swallowing a foreign body such as a pen lid you can expect to pass the foreign object in your stool in 5-7 days. Check your stools daily Sometimes eating bread or food helps to pass the foreign body more rapidly

Swallowing a Dime: Usualy a dime will pass through without any ill effects . Are you sure it was a dime - if it was a thin wafer-type battery it could cause lots of harm. ?

MouthWash?: Although some mouthwashes contain alcohol, swallowing a small amount should not cause you significant harm.  However, in general, mouthwash should be swished and spit out.
