This coupled with the large flow of blood from maternal circulation to the placenta causes a compensatory rise in heart rate to generate the necessary cardiac output and deliver enough oxygen to the tissues.

Growth scan: A growth scan is an ultrasound to see that the baby is growing appropriately. They will take various measurements from which they will compare to those from a previous ultrasound to be sure they have grown enough and not too much. The baby's heart beat should be checked at each visit and you can ask what it is even without a scan. It should vary just as yours does. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Later: Movement is occurring now, it just cannot be perceived by you at this time. By 30 weeks gestation, most pregnant moms to be can determine consistent fetal movement.

145 + or - 20 points: Fetal heart rate is generally in the mid 140's, but may be 20 points or so higher or lower and is still considered normal.  Factors that could affect rate would be maternal fever, illness, or activity. Irregular fetal rhythm would be more concerning.

Not necessarily: Heart may increase during pregnancy. I will recommend to see your pcp or a cardiologist to make sure that you have physiological tachycardia and not cardiac arrythmias, which is a possibility during pregnancy.

Yes: It's normal to have an elevated heart rate in pregnancy, especially toward the end.  Any blood pressure &gt; 140 / 90 needs to be evaluated by physician, but i'm assuming that your doctor already knows your blood pressure?  Make sure you're well hydrated (pee should be clear colored, not dark yellow), dehydration can sometimes lead to an elevated heart rate.  If on propranolol, speak with physician.

Heart rate: This is an educational forum. No diagnostic/treatment information is allowed. In general, heart rate typically increases starting  5 weeks and it remains slightly elevated. Typically heart rate is elevated at 15-20 above nonpregnant levels. This answer should not deter you from seeing an obgyn and establishing routine prenatal care. In your case, see obgyn ASAP just to make sure all is well.

Old : Old wives tales suggest that girl fetuses have heart rates above 140, while boy fetuses tend to have heart rates lower than 140. Unfortunately, as sexy as it sounds to believe that we might predict a babyâ€™s sex by the heart rate, itâ€™s simply not true. Repeated studies have proven that fetal heart rate does not correlate to fetal sex, but it does correlate to gestational age. As fetuses develop, their heart rates tend to drop. As a mother, i know how impatient i was to discover that i was having a little girl, but i can tell you that the thrill i felt when i found out my babyâ€™s gender made it well worth the wait.

About 140 (+or- 30): The fetal  heart rate can vary considerably depending on the mother's heart rate and health and on the fetal metabolic state, level of activity and probably several other factors. Normally in  a very quiet, relaxed postprandial or sleep-like state, it would tend to be low (115 to 120) ; at other times it could possibly rise to 150-160 beats per minute  or transiently  perhaps to 170-180.
