i was draining my portable ac from the water it had. the smell of the draining water was bad and it kinda made me have a funny feeling. i didnt have it up close to me though. could this be dangerous? could it cause bacterial or fungal infections?

: When cleaning anything that has standing water, fungus, mold and other contaminants may be present. Use a mask and gloves, and drain the water into a toilet (not shower or sink). Disinfect the unit using bleach solution and wash your hands thoroughly after finishing this task. Unless you are experiencing cough, chest tightness, fever, etc, you are probably not infected.

i am confused about the amount of water i should drink.i sit in an ac office and don't sweat.read somewhere more than 3 ltrs a day can cause edema.

Accepted Answer

Depends on diet: 3 liters is a lot of water if you are not sweating and could cause water intoxication unless you have some salt intake.*8 glasses of water is plenty to drink.

very warm  here   no ac. my meds seem to dehydrate me  i'm concerned  about  getting  to dehydrated  no one's home.  i already  drank 1 gal of water.

Thirsty?: Are you feeling thirsty?  Any reason to be concerned about dehydration other than heat?  If you are getting dehydrated then I would expect you would have thirst.  Drinking adequate water is a good first step, but add a salty snack like a small bowl of pretzels to be sure to hold on to more of the water you drank.

Clear urine is good: Clear urine is a sign of good hydration. If your urine is slightly straw yellow, this may mean you need to drink lore water.  In general, you should drink enough water to keep your urine relatively clear.

Dry mouth\headache: This might be related to the medications you take or you might be sleeping with an open mouth from allergies or nasal congestion.  You will have to discuss this with your own physician rather than have us make educated guesses over the internet.

: HIV transmission is not possible in above scenario, fruit acidity may be irritating to your mouth ulcers.

It can be bad: Drinking too much water can lead to severe disturbances of electrolytes in your blood which can cause devastating medical problems. Your best bet is to drink pure water whenever you are thirsty. If you are going to be working outside in a hot environment then drinking enough water to prevent thirst is ok. Just don't over do it.

YES!: Too much of anything is no good. Too much water too quickly can easily make one feel very full. Too much water over a longer period of time can leave a woman feeling more bloated especially during that time of the month. BUT......the feeling of being fat is obviously in ones mind even though one can physically bloat and self-image is a very complicated issue. In general, water is beneficial.
