Abscess: Sounds like you have mastitis. Depending on your age, location of an abscess and if you are breastfeeding, different treatment options. If there's a cyst or abscess it should be fully excised, sometimes infection in the ducts may cause relapse. Get mammogram if you're over 35. Please see you doctor, or plastics or breast surgeon soon

Yes: Follow the post-op instructions to avoid it coming back. The key to drainage is to get the concentration of infection and allow continued drainage to promote the healing process. They want it to heal from the inside out. Hydrogen peroxide is fine and safe.

Many possibilities: Breaks in skin, however minor, can cause infection in that area. Sometimes it may be the result of blocked ducts, but rarely this is a manifestation of infection elsewhere extending through the bloodstream.  If an echocardiogram has been ordered, your doctor is thinking systemic disease spreading. Endocarditis (heart valve infection) is where they are going. Follow up assiduously and get better.

Damaged tissue: You have an area of damaged tissue which has been removed surgically and still has inflammation around it and this takes time for tissue to regrow and to fill in.

Fistula/abscess: Some may be familiar with the term, as this is a term used because it was characterized by a man named joseph zuska in 1951.  More commonly the condition is referred to as a fistula or concomitant abscess around the nipple.  Not knowing the name zuska 's disease should not make you think any less of a surgeon. my loved one had a breast abscess surgery done on both breasts on 19-jan-2013. the granular tissue has overgrown and needs to be scrapped (doc says). is there no other option thn operate? i am tensed.

No: Granulation tissue can be painful if left untreated. Removal is a simple procedure.

Need investigation: In non lactating female most of the breast abcess are in skin and subcutaneous tissue, should heal with drainage , wound care along with antibiotics , in a non healing abscess or infection may have be having  underlying malignancy, please take your mom to her doctor for examination and tests.
