What was the reason for the urine collection?

See a nephrologist: That is a significant amount of protein and it is indicative of significant kidney inflammation. Have a nephrologist evaluate the problem. Is your creatinine clearance normal?

Q: gp ordered 1 hr ogt to test for hypoglycemia, citing 4.8 a1c in 2019. fasting gluc: 97. ogtt result: 67. endocrinologist said test unnecessary, was never at risk, results normal. gp said im borderline hypo, need freq. protein meals. who is right?

: If I had to choose I would put more weight on the endocrinologist's opinion. If you are not satisfied with your doctors, you may get an opinion from a different doctor, however, because a doctor may not give the answer you may be looking for.

Borderline low: A TSH of 4.4 is in the upper range of normal. The free T4 of 1.2 is normal. Anti-tpo of 85 is high is most labs. This suggests that you may have early autoimmune thyroid disease. The natural history of this disorder is that it may evolve into flagrant hypothyroidism, but it could also develop into hyperthyroidism, or stay stable. Unless you have significant symptoms, observation would be ok.

Q: blood tests results today.. cbc all normal except for mch 31.2 high. i don't know that is should i be worried? other items out of line were glucose 115 h, t.chol/hdl ratio 3.7 l, a1c 6.2 h and vitamin d 25oh total 29.8 l. the rest are all in normal.

Prediabetic..: The MCH isn’t bothering me as much as the vitamin D deficiency and possible Prediabetes. The blood glucose and A1C are in the prediabetic range, putting you at increased risk for the eventual development of diabetes. Discuss options with your regular provider and consider 2000IU of vitamin D3 daily.

how can someone have a high a1c result and normal glucose reading?

The A1C measures: your glucose continuously over the past 3 months. So one glucose reading can be normal but you are spiking above normal at times if your AIC is high. Think of the A!C as an average glucose overr the last 3 months. If it is high,you  are having some abnormal sugars.

No - incr DM risk: We used to consider hemoglobin A1c (hgba1c) <6% as normal w/6-7 considered good control for diabetes. A couple of yrs ago, we relabeled <5.7 as normal w/5.7-6.4 as increase risk for diabetes while >6.4 is considered consistent w/diabetes. Talk to your family doc, change your eating habits & increase your physical activity. Then recheck in 3mo as hgba1c represents running 3mo average of blood sugar.

i am a t2 diabetic taking insulin. a1c 6.2; 55 yrs old. what does a fasting c-peptide result of  3.4 indicate? am i making normal levels of insulin?

Yes: We need to see the blood sugar level at the time the c-peptide of 3.1 was drawn but in general, this is a good and adequate level.  This means that your body is still producing and releasing its own insulin.  It means that you are a type 2 diabetic and not close to being a type 1 yet if ever.

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, why was insulin level tested? It is not a usual test. Rest of your results are normal. If you do not have any symptoms, do not be concerned.
