Herpes: The virus starts to multiply when it gets into the skin cells. The skin becomes red and sensitive, and soon afterward, one or more blisters or bumps appear. The blisters first open, scab over, and then heal as new skin tissue forms. During a first outbreak, the area is usually painful and may itch, burn or tingle. Flu-like symptoms are also common. These include swollen glands, headache, muscle.

Hematoma?: This sounds most like a large bruise, or hematoma. These can be quite tender and can sometimes be quite firm. The colors, in particular, sound like bruising. There are other possibilities depending on the exact appearance. If it is not rapidly changing and no other symptoms are present, it should be ok to observe for a few days. If you have drainage, severe pain, or any other symptoms, see pcp.

Best to see a doctor: Hpv has a very characteristic appearance that a doctor would recognize. One thing you could try on your own is to put white vinegar on the bump. If there is hpv the skin should turn white.

Abscess: You may have inadvertently contaminated the area; apply warm compresses and seek medical attention to rule out an abscess that may need treatment.

Sweat gland cyst: Need more information.  How long has it been there?  Painful?  Growing?  Any others?  Drainage?  Other symptoms that you may not think related (growth on penis or testicles, difficulty urinating) may be connected.  A blocked sweat gland (sebaceous cyst) is very likely.  See your primary doctor, get exam +/- ultrasound, and see a surgeon.  Good luck!

Probably not herpes: There are several causes of blister-like skin problems other than herpes. And you&#x27;re exactly right, that herpes doesn&#x27;t generally cause large blisters. Also, herpes oubreaks would not be so spread out, i.e. pubic area and thigh. See a doctor, ideally a dermatologist.
