my 4 year old is sick and every time he coughs he  screams from pain from his sore throat.  is there anything he can take for throat pain?

As a mother, my : Instinct would be to take the child to an urgent care clinic. It sounds like the pain is unusually severe and i would want a doctor to take a look as soon as possible.

AURI: Needs to see md for rx. You can give Benadryl (diphenhydramine) syrup 1 tsp. At bedtime to stop the bad cough. Viral infection last  for 1 week  otherwise see md.

Eating disorders, : anorexia &amp; bulimia, are rare in 4-year-old boys. If his height, weight &amp; head circumference are not following their %iles on growth curves or he has pediatric undernutrition, weight-for-length &lt; 5th % ile, he needs an evaluation for a medical cause. If okay, see healthychildren.org for healthy diet at 4 years. Fever can increase heart rate. Fever + sore throat require a throat culture for "strep"

4 year old daughter started having a sore throat on saturday we gave her pando then she was fine. on sunday she started having rash all over her body which she still does but she has no fever or any mesealeas like symtomps.

Doctor can check: Tonsillitis is inflammation (redness, swelling, pain) and/or infection of the tonsils, which can be due to viruses, bacteria, or other germs. Viruses can cause rashes by themselves or in combination with antibiotic usage. Strep throat sometimes causes strep scarlet fever, a well-known rash looks like many tiny reddish dots, and may also create a tongue coating.

Yes: Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen will help with pain. She requires an assessment for possible strep. Strep requires an antibiotic. Chicken pox is a virus which she should have been immunized for. I hope she feels better soon

: Mono is one of many viral causes of this pattern. The test is often negative until they have had it several weeks in kids that age. Treatment is watchful waiting and comfort measures/nutrition.

Maybe, maybe not.: Typically strep throat alone rarely produces cough--there is almost always something else involved when a cough joins an infected throat such an a sinus infection or 2nd illness (not previously appreciated until the strep begins to improve) such as mycoplasma. The antibiotic for strep will not treat mycoplasma infection; therefore, the best advice is to call your md noting this change in symptoms.
