No, : No, ear ache is not a symptom typically associated with dtap injection or flu shot.  If her ear is hurting she should be checked for ear infection.  If she gets fever, rash, vomiting, or is not acting normally then she would need to be seen as an emergency.

There : There are a few things that could cause these symptoms:  
- a middle ear infection with a burst ear drum
- an outer ear (ear canal) infection - also known as swimmer's ear
- an injury to the ear drum or canal by inserting something such as a cotton swab
- a foreign object still in the ear canal

all of these need to be addressed by a doctor for treatment, so calling your child's physician would be the best thing to do at this point.  Good luck!

Origin of pain: A 4 year old should be able to tell you where the pain is coming from. If it is from outside ear &amp; pain increases if you tug on the ear it is a canal issue like swimmers ear=no fever. If it is from inside it may not be infected at all. Pain is produced when the ear drum stretches. This can happen if sucked in, like in an airplane ride, or pushed out with infection. An exam is needed to sort it out

Ear pain: Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, a decongestant, and nasal saline irrigation will help with middle ear problems for most people. Warm compresses sometimes help as well. Good luck.

Nope: Don't do it. Have the earache checked out by a doctor to determine the cause. Most earaches in 3 yr olds involve the middle ear, so anything one put in the outer ear canal wouldn't help anyway. Even if the problem is in the outer ear, don't use eye medications in the ear. No shortcut here. Get the proper medicine and use it according to doctor's instructions.  Hope the little one feels better soon.
