Fibroids &amp; pregnancy: Fibroids are common causes for infertility, so the fact that you are pregnant, is a plus. However, fibroids, depending upon their location in the uterus, can cause miscarriages or premature labor and delivery. Work closely with your OB MD and keep all appointments as many patients make it to term with a live baby under these conditions.

Uncertain: So many things are uncomfortable during pregnancy, especially as it advances, I can't say for sure that your fibroids are the cause.  Treatment options for fibroids are very limited during pregnancy.  Avoid excess weight gain and impact exercises.   Take tylenol (acetaminophen) and experiment with different positions when lying, sitting and standing.  You OB may want to monitor their size and position as well.

Very common: Fibroids are incredibly common. The overwhelming majority  cause no problems at all. The size and location are important to be able to offer advise. You should ask your doctor the specifics.

Fibroid pregnancy: Fibroids in pregnancy usually do not post much of a problem. The two main things they can cause are pain if they are degenerative, or obstruction of delivery if they are toward or in the cervix. Most intramural fibroids do not cause problems and the care for the pregnancy is no different. This assumes you have not have prior surgery to remove fibroids.

: Please visit with an OBGYN for an evaluation. Fibroids by themselves do not prevent pregnancy. Depending on size &amp; location may have no effect on the success of a pregnancy carrying to full term delivery. Instead of worrying about what might happen, seek out answers based on your specific findings.

Unlikely: Ectopic pregnancy is generally because of damage to the fallopian tubes themselves.  Fibroids may affect the shape and size of the uterus and the uterine cavity, but not the tubes themselves.

If you are: pregnant with fibroids, those are not periods , please see your OB as you need an ultrasound to check the fetus , uterus and placenta

No: A fibroid is a solid tumor, while a pregnancy is a fluid filled sac.

Ultrasound: Fibroids and an early gestational sac look entirely different on ultrasound. Even on a vaginal ultrasound. So, no, a pregnancy cannot be mistaken for fibroids.
