Range 50-120: Actual normal iron level is between 50-120, or 50-170, depending on the lab, for an average healthy child. Actually iron is usually not measured unless one is anemic. Usually hemoglobin is measured and normal is 11--16gm/dl for children. Teach your child to eat well--a variety of foods/fruits/veggies, and keep active--a lifetime of healthy habits will promote better health.  Consult doc. Good luck.

Yes.: Iron should be taken with an acid food to maximize absorption - assuming you really need to be taking iron supplementation. Calcium in dairy products can interfere with iron absorption so should reasonably be separated from iron intake by an hour or so.  Again, this really depends upon how much iron you really need to replace.  Are you significantly anemic, do you have symptoms, are you bleeding?

Not good enough : Taking too much iron is detrimental to health. Best criteria come from a normal hemoglobin and red cell count.

It's normal: Having black stools and/or constipation is a completely normal, typical side effect from iron supplements.  So i wouldn't worry. If you start noticing that the black stools become more tarry in appearance, then i would be worried about gastrointestinal bleeding.

is 10 mg of iron in a multi vitamin too much if i do not need extra iron?  i took a multi with this amount for the last three days.

Not a problem: If you get enough iron in your diet (e.g., meats, beans, fortified cereals), and are not low on it somehow (e.g., women losing it with heavy periods) you won't need to take extra iron. However, the amount you mentioned is not a lot of iron. For comparison, a packet of oatmeal has approximately 11 mg of iron.

Yes: For iron deficiency/ dietary supplement its fine to take 65 mg elemental iron 2 to 3 times daily. Remember your doctor will be the best to counsel/dose this for you so please keep your appointments for monitoring/continuous care. Take iron with orange for better absorption/ with food to reduce abdominal discomfort. Common side effects include, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, dark stools. Take care.

Anemia: It sounds like there needs to be additional workup to determine the reason for your father's anemia.  Iron deficiency anemia is usually due to blood loss rather than a lack of iron intake.  Tests such as a colonoscopy are often done to look for gastrointestinal blood loss.

my monocyte % has been "high" for over a year now. at 13%, 13.2%, and 12.1% on my past three blood tests. my monocyte count however has been sitting at 800. my iron/ferritin are low as well (ferr- 16.2). is this something i should be worried about?

: Your monocyte count appears stable and at the higher side of normal, it is the absolute value that matters, the ratio changes have to do with variation in your white blood cell count (WBC). A low ferritin is suggestive of iron deficiency, clinical correlation will be needed by your ordering doc.
