Lochia: It is called lochia and contains blood, mucus, and uterine tissue.  It can continue up to 6weeks postpartum.

: I would contact your delivering OBGYN ands arrange to be seen. As long as it is spotting and not filling large pads you have time to wait. If you are filling large pads daily you need to be seen as soon as it can be arranged.

Depends: It really depends on a number of things.  Some intermittent spotting is normal, but ongoing menstrual-period-level bright red blood is not.  Your birth control choice could impact this some, however. If you're on depo-provera or a progestin-only pill (the "mini-pill"), ongoing spotting or bleeding might be expected.

: "Five weeks post partum" bleeding may be secondary to retained placental tissue, or even the start of a menstrual period if you are not on birth control pills.  See your OBGYN physician for guidance as more information is needed to answer completely.

Probably not: But the reason you are told not to have sex for 6 weeks after having a baby is to prevent infection of your uterus. The sex probably had nothing to do with your bleeding - it's very common 2-3 weeks after having a baby.
Discuss this with your obgyn right away.

Uterine involution: That's why it is called the post partum period for 6 to 8 weeks. The uterus is contracting with breastfeeding and causing a small amount of light bleeding.

i am 7 weeks postpartum and stopped bleeding 3/4weeks ago. i noticed some blood when wiping and placed a sanitary towel on. no blood now. is this norm?

Blood post -partum: Are you breast feeding ? if you are not breastfeeding could be the beginning of the return of your period. If you are partially breastfeeding could be the same. May also be variation as hormonal changes are ongoing  or infection. F/U with your doctor.

Postpartum bleeding: Normal postpartum bleeding is from 4-6 weeks. Are you breast feeding? Are you using birth control?  If the bleeding is heavy you might have "subinvolution of the placental site". This will not show up on ultrasound. It is an unusual condition. More likely, the area in the uterus where your placenta was attached is just taking a bit longer to heal. I would recommend just observation for now.

Can be normal: But, i would contact my doctor to be checked. Having intermittent increased bleeding is common, but if it is very heavy, you could have retained some of your placenta.
