my two year old has a temp underarm 101, heavy breathing and crusty eyes what should i do?

Control fever: As long as the child doesn't appear severely ill i usually recommend first controlling the fever with Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen).  Usually this gets the child feeling much better.  The heavy breathing is probably from the fever as well, but if he/she appears short of breath then you need to see your doctor.  Push fluids.  If things don't seem to be improving within 48 hrs then see your doctor.

Accepted Answer

Getting sick: Many children "feel"warm before they register a fever. Looking drowsy and loss of appetite can also indicate beginning of illness. Let her rest and drink plenty  of fluids. We will see if she fights it off or goes on to develop other symptoms.
She could also just be tired and hungry as well.

my one year old son has mucus coming out of his eyes and nose, he has a severe cough and is on albuterol and allergy meds, what ele can i do?

See allergist: If this has been present for months, you should consider an allergy consult.  At this age, food allergy is not uncommon and eliminating the offending foods may be quite helpful. I also did not find any controller drug for asthma in the medication profile.

Seldom needed: Although used for decades these meds have not been shown to shorten an illness & may increase the thickness of secretions making it harder to cough them out.Many kids felt a little more would help them & self medicated & ended up in emergency rooms.The aap & other groups discourage their use under 6. I have mixed feelings. Saline nasal wash is preferable for younger kids.

Sign of a pinkeye...: ...Is usually, well, a pink eye! - actually red is more likely, with draining pus, pain/itch, and/or tearing likely.

Red eye: Unless her eye was involved in the trauma her eyeshoild not turn red.

Conjunctivitis: Common with upper repiratory infections and ear infections. Apply warm soaks. If white of eye becomes red will need eye drops.

It shouldn't: If  your child has normal vision in one eye the capacity to learn should be ok. The second eye gives us the benefit of depth perception or the ability to judge distance better. Vision is an important but not the only input mechanism for learning. Remembering the spoken word and writing things down also help us learn & your daughter will use both.

Eye scratch: I would recommend visiting your primary physician as you may need an antibiotic eye drop.

Possibly: I would call the office tomorrow & discuss the symptoms with the nurse.
