why would  an infant need cpr?

They quit breahing: Although most infants won't have a heart attack or rhythm disturbance that puts them down like adults, they may need cpr. Infants have more respiratory findings leading to problems than adults. They can compensate to a point for pneumonia problems, asthma, etc by breathing harder, but they can wear out, stop breathing & will soon die unless someone helps them get going again.

Odd question: How do you define losing consciousness? An infant who is breathing normally with a strong heartbeat can and will nod off occasionally &amp; alert when their nap is over. If they are not breathing the heartbeat slows &amp; stops &amp; they die without intervention. If they alert after a quiet period they were still breathing although it may have been slower &amp; shallower than usual.

No uniform answer: Infants have a better ability than older kids or adults in tolerating such events. They are also variable in consequence by age of kid/duration of event/other co-morbidities. It is certainly something you want to avoid, but I have seen kids go through such events that seemed very bleek at the time grow into successful adults.

Cpr: If patting on the back doesnt work, apply CPR by usinf two fingers of presssure just under the nipple line in a rhythm of 15 taps to 2 breaths. Use can also squeeze the chest with two thumbs on the sterum at the same 15:2 ratio.

Likely: Yes, you could if you are not using any barrier wile doing mouth to mouth with a infected person.

The course of : Management for you is expectant, meaning be on antibiotics and hold off delivery unless fetal or maternal indications.  The WBC is automatically elevated in pregnancy, .  I hope you have been initiated on antenatal steroids, they make all the difference.  I have seen pregnancies extend for a long time with good outcomes in your situation.  Avoid frequent cervical exams to avoid infection.  Good luc.
