Total parenteral nutrition
Total parenteral nutrition is the term used to describe a nutritional formula that is administered through the veins. When the digestive system cannot be used due to inflammation, blockage, or absorption problems, individuals will receive all nutrition via an intravenous catheter. This is usually not the preferred method of delivering nutrition long term and is usually a temporary method.
