Ureteroscopic stone removal
Lithotripsy is done by a urologist. It involves a kidney stone being manually "broken up" so that the smaller pieces may be directly removed. A camera is passed into the bladder to make sure the pieces are removed. There is another kind of lithotripsy that uses ultrasound to break up the stone (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy), but this is contra-indicated during pregnancy.
