Usually.: Ureteroscopic procedures are performed in the operating room, with general or spinal anesthesia. With general, you are asleep. This is the preferred method, especially with stones high up in the kidney where breathing must be controlled. In spinal anesthesia you are numb from the waist down but awake. This is usually reserved for those with issues that prevent full anesthesia.

Ureteroscopy: Yes. All ureteroscopic stone surgery is done with the patient under anesthesia. This is done for 2 reasons: painful procedure and patient must be completely still.
