Other descriptions include: subject to abrupt change, or unpredictable & changeable. It is often used in reference to a "labile affect" -- which is a mood which varies broadly & abruptly. You hear "labile hypertension"--which is blood pressure that bounces above & below what would be considered normal or benign. Such a BP must be charted throughout the day to determine if treatment is needed.
