Inner ear
The inner ear refers to that part of the ear where mechanical sound energy is transferred to electrical signals that are then sent through nerves to the brain. It also refers to the part of the ear that assists in the regulation of balance. The inner ear includes the cochlea (hearing) and the semi-circular canals (balance).
