Intestinal ischemia
Intestinal ischemia is loss of blood supply to a section of intestine. It is caused either by blood clotting in place or a blood clot from the heart breaking off and lodging in an artery to a section of intestine. Either cause can lead to gangrene (death) of a section of intestine. This can be an emergency leading to death if the dead section of intestine is not removed soon.
