Yes: Blood tests can diagnose herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), the usual cause of oral herpes, and HSV2, the main cause of genital herpes. Have an IgG antibody test only. IgM testing often done but is unreliable, often misleading, not recommended by herpes experts. But beware: even IgG testing can be misleading. Get tested only if recommended by a doctor experienced in herpes and testing for it.
