Yes: The baby is well protected during pregnancy from any viral intrusion during flares.However, the baby can pick up the germ and become ill if you are shedding the germ durin labor and delivery.Many moms will schedule a c-section prior to labor to prevent that risk.

It is possible: But close monitoring and extra care needs to be taken to assure the baby does not acquire the infection in utero and or when passing through the birth canal, as this could be serious. Best wishes.
