No: You should stay away from hormonal birth control if you have a history of abnormal blood clotting, particularly a pulmonary embolism which can be fatal.

Not a good idea: Birth control pills can cause deep vein thrombosis. If you are already being treated for a pulmonary embolism, i would think long and hard about re-starting birth control pills. You should have a long talk with your doctor.

Absolutely not: You absolutely cannot take hormonal contraception that contains estrogen when being treated for a pulmonary embolism. In fact you should never go back on any estrogen for the rest of your life. Estrogen is a risk factor for pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis. Consider an iud or another method.
