Vaginitis: Exam, obtaining samples for analysis is the best way. There are different organism (bacterial, yeast) , std, hormonal changes that may cause vaginal irritation. A good medical history helps us make a proper diagnosis. There are over the counter cream (may ask pharmacist. Then if not better see a doctor. Do not do vaginal douches when on your period (this wipe out normal vaginal flora).

Yeast: If it’s your 1st possible yeast infection or you aren’t sure if it’s yeast – see your dr. Tx options: vaginal cream, ointment or suppository for sev. days (7 to 14 days sometimes). OTC meds include monistat (miconzole), Vagistat-1 (tioconazole), Femstat (buoconazole), Gyne-Lotrimin or Mycelex( clotrimazole). If OTC meds don’t work see your Dr. S/he may order Diflucan (oral antifungal)
