...: Genital herpes can be treated with several different medications including acyclovir, Famciclovir and valacyclovir. Treatment can be offered as the outbreaks occur. But if someone has multiple frequent outbreaks, consideration can be given to suppressive therapy (i.e. Take medication daily to prevent outbreaks). Talk to your doctor about your options.

Antivirals oral med: Treat outbreak as needed. Start treatment within the first 48-72 hours (even after 5 days). Some need supressive "daily " therapy: for frequent recurrence (i.E, >10 outbreaks per year) or if partner hsv ii negative. It reduces recurrences by 80%, and reduces transmission risk}.

Treatable, not cured: Genital herpes is caused by various strains of herpes virus which are sexually transmitted. Once in the skin, it cannot be cured, and tends to cause intermittent outbreaks of rash/symptoms. Outbreaks can be shortened/less severe with oral or topical antiviral agents, such as Zovirax. Once daily oral agents can be used long term to prevent or diminish episodes. Safe sex to avoid transmission.
