A member asked:

Can you ask to be checked for hiv, hepatitis, and herpes during a routine pap test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, ask.: Pap tests will find hpv & precancerous / cancerous cells in the cervix / vagina. In addition to those, pap tests will also detect 5 other infections (bacterial vaginosis, candida/yeast infection, herpes virus infection, actinomyces bacteria, and trichomonas). If a patient has a herpes sore, the pap test will likely see that. Hiv & hepatitis are not detected by pap. Ask for those separately.
